Entity monologue – direction 1…

Thinking about what the sort of speech could be said in the piece, I’ve realised it could go off in several directions. So I’ve got to ask what it’s trying to communicate. Whether it’s taking the tone of reciting biblical scripture, or some classy advertisement. If it was an advertisement, then clearly it’s going to be very far away from Cillit bang. But what would work well with it is to bring a sense of nostalgia to it. Something like old radio advertisements, such as (click links);

International Sterling – for a product

Frankenstein – for a show

VA Terberculosis – Medical advice

and more examples here; http://www.oldtimeradiofans.com/old_radio_commercials/

It’s something to work towards. In the mean time, a radio monologue from 1959…

Screen Model

From the advice of the Model-Making tutor the other day on how to better explain my screen idea, I’ve now made an initial scale model of the screen. I used;

  • Copper rods, spot welded together
  • A ladle, with the handle sawn off
  • Acetate with the tech design printed on them
  • A LED torch re-circuited to a smaller size
  • 45 degree angle prism, to focus the direction of the light a bit more, and because prisms are cool.

And the result is this;

The Screen parts of the tech design are the slightly more blue parts on the acetate, but aren’t opaque enough for a decent screen. I’m not entirely too fussed about that though, as this is just a rough example of what I’d like elements of the screen to look like and how the rig works. Hopefully this’ll help me pitch to the model-makers!

Looking for extra help…

Popped into uni today, and had a talk with Tutor Phil. Essentially talked about the new set-up for the cylinder, to make it look tech and aesthetically pleasing. And to perhaps do that, take the physical construction out of my hands, as to be honest I’ll make it look like a bodge job. So brought up the possibility of getting someone in 3d Model Making course at the AUCB to help me. As I tend to have communication issues, I asked Phil to come over with me to their course leaders office, to which he kindly obliged.

So, after a chat with the Tutors at Model-Making and getting a basic understanding of what I’d like, it seems an opportunity may present itself in the next few weeks. From the 24th of February, a unit begins that’s about producing some 3d work for Interactivity, in which it may be hopeful that a student could be interested in helping me produce this as part of their project. Win! In the mean time however, I’ve been advised to better form out the idea, and even construct a small scale model as example of what I’m looking for. Which will probably be cool in helping pitch this to a student if needs be. I’ll start making something tomorrow though i reckon, maybe get something done in time for the round table group presentation on Thursday.

Screen size and shape

Just cracked out a top down look on the screen (to scale), and an example of what the screen sections would look like, with the white blocks being the screens themselves, and the tech shapes being the edges, with some empty space around them. The gradient is just to show it off from the background, but ideally it’ll all be connected to see through. And there’s some measurements in there too.  Click image to enlarge…
