Audio development

Just giving the audio a whizz through Logic Pro 9, mixing the Ave Maria 800 times slower with the monologue, and adding a machine effect to the speech. I got advice from Mike Cosgrave on some audio editing, dealing with frequencies and working on the EQ.

However, I’m not happy with those in between gaps of the monologue. I kinda realized to add to the narrative environment, it needs an atmos track on top, something that’s quite relative in film making. My feelings were that it needs some sort of chatter, continuos talk. I could quite pin down what I’m looking for whilst looking for tracks online. Taking a step back, i reflected on the religious angle of the piece. Some of the video content i made was in the form of a mandala, something relating to more Eastern religions. So, the took the inspiration of looking at Hindu Mantras and looked up one about Lord Shiva, Maha Mrityunjaya‏ - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahamrityunjaya_Mantra

उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान् म्रुत्योर्मुक्षिय मामृतात्

Transalation; We Meditate on the Three-eyed reality which nourishes and increases the sweet fullness of life. Like a cucumber from its stem may we be separated (“liberated”), not from immortality but from death.

It reflects on the separation of body from mind and the protection os a supreme being, relevant i think. Partially, it’s down to people interpretations of the piece as well, people can take different ideas from it if they seriously take it all in. I’ve found a free download and added it to the mix to see what it’s like. I know ideally, I’d got to a Hindu temple and ask if it’s possible to get my own recording, alas Bournemouth isn’t well known for it’s multi-culturalism. Hence i do miss living in Birmingham at times like this. Anyway, using that free mp3, I’ve got this into the mix, it’s an improvement i think, but not totally 100% on it. I may need to come back and redo the levels of the speech.

Religion.

It works…

With the aid of a small 2000 lumen DLP projector, bouncing it off the mirror and mapped up using Modul8.

Just a bit of faith and patience…

Prototype re-rig…

Well, after a visit from my Dad and talking to Liam, instead of focusing on getting the mirror to work, I’ve put together a few pieces of the screens neater, connected with magnets and fishing line. Also frosted the screens I’ve got cut already to make it more opaque, as I’ll now be getting new screens made up from a better material. With that redone, I’ve got the short-throw projector and hooked it up to a Mac running the VJ software Modul8. I’ve used this software before and so know how ot use it to map video to object. So getting a few pieces of video, mapped it up to show an example in time for the crit of what it would look like.  What follows are pictures of that process..

And on top of that, a video to document it as such;

Hopefully, this is enough to win over the crowds, but at the very least it’s a lot more than what I had for the last crit, so I should be fine.

Digital Divinity

Short video piece for use as a presentation for my Extended Major Project.

The project I’m doing is a narrative environment piece, set around a science fiction setting, where mankind has given itself to a A.I. that controls a neural network. Using a projection technique with a hemispherical mirror, the aim is to use omnidirectional projection for an omniscient narrative.
